Clients often ask me… “Is it too late to plan a trip for this summer?” My answer is always NO! The absolute best times to begin planning are 6 months before you travel OR with less than a month to go! That seems to go against the “Disney Way” of planning dining 180 days before travel, Fastpasses 60 days before travel, and the hurry up and wait that planning a Disney vacation often causes.
There is a freedom in a last-minute trip. All of those pre-planners are narrowing their options and dropping dining reservations as they finalize their days in the parks.
What about Fastpasses?
Fastpasses can be a bit tricky – but nothing that a solid touring plan and some flexibility can’t combat. Going with the flow can be great at Disney and there’s no pressure to focus on a particular restaurant or attraction – it may even lead to some new favorites and exploring areas of the park that you’ve never seen before! I did a quick search at noon today for TODAY and there were still Fastpasses available for Space Mountain, Buzz Lightyear, Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise, Pirates of the Caribbean, and many more at Magic Kingdom.
What about dining?
Taking a quick peek at availability for a family of four for this weekend..I’m seeing 1900 Park Fare at 5:30, Akershus Royal Banquet Hall at 5:30, Chef Mickey’s at 6 pm, Crystal Palace at 6 pm, The Pixar and Fantasmic! Dining package at all three restaurants for dinner, Rivers of Light dining package at both restaurants at 5:15, and many many more – these are restaurants that can be difficult to get months out, all easily available this weekend.
What about MagicBands?
Magic bands will ship directly to you as long as you have customized them at least 10 days prior to travel. Between 6 and 10 days? You can customize but they will be waiting at front desk. Inside of 6 days, you will get a color of the resort’s choice upon check in, but it will all work perfectly!
Doing a quick trip right at the end of summer or shortly after school starts, also breaks up the routine and gets everyone reconnected before the long stretch before Fall Break hits. It can be less expensive than you think, and who doesn’t need a little pixie dust on a whim once in a while?
If you’re looking for a last minute getaway, don’t hesitate to explore options today.
