If you’re visiting Walt Disney World during the holiday season, there’s one thing you MUST add to your itinerary- stopping in to Grand Floridian Resort! The sights, smells and sounds will completely lure you in as you explore the lobby, housing the life-sized Gingerbread House and accompanying music from a pianist or band.
The bakery team at Grand Floridian builds and decorates the most beautiful Gingerbread House every year, investing over 2 months and 840 hours to make, cut and bake all the pieces. Look at all it takes to make this vision come to life:
1050 lbs of honey
800 lbs of flour
600 lbs of chocolate
600 lbs of powdered sugar
140 pints of egg whites
35 lbs of spices
tons of creativity
a sprinkle of Disney magic
a little pixie dust
And you thought making Gingerbread houses with the kids was crazy!
Once you’ve oohed and aaahhhed over the beautiful House, make your way to the back to the Snack Shoppe! They have some delicious options, including gluten-free goodies. Indulge in your very own gingerbread house shingle, lollipops, cookies, chocolates, breads, truffles and more. Bonus: You can totally use Snack credits from your Disney Dining Plan. They even have a gingerbread house recipe and template!
You can also do a bit of a scavenger hunt while visiting. This year there are 19 Golden Mickey heads hidden among the Gingerbread House; representing each year the Grand Floridian has kept the Gingerbread House tradition going.
If you plan to visit this holiday season, we’d love to see a picture of you in front of the Gingerbread House! Of course, it’s not too late to give the gift of Disney this holiday season. I’d love to help you plan a Dream Disney Vacation, whether it’s for Christmas or beyond!
